MuniFinancial has been providing customized administration services for our clients with Assessment, Landscaping and Lighting and Community Facilities Districts, as well as standby charge programs, various charges and parcel taxes for nearly 20 years. Our goal is to constantly improve our ability to deliver quality service to agencies across the nation in an efficient, responsive, cost-effective and timely manner. This leads us to continuously search for new technological solutions to assist our staff in achieving our goal.
In January 2002, MuniFinancial released its proprietary database management program MuniMagic™ - MuniFinancial's Municipal Administration and Government Information Coordinator. This system is utilized by the MuniFinancial team in the administration of the client specific special charges and parcel taxes. Our staff uses the system internally in the following ways:
- Maintain assessor parcel data
- Calculate special taxes, assessment, fees & charges
- Manage delinquencies
- Centrally maintain all bond related information
- Provide customized and flexible reporting
- Automatic renumbering of parcels
- Automatic flagging of retired, expired and sub-divided parcels
Interfaced with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat, this database management tool also allows our staff to meet specific client needs/requests.
Created from the "ground up" by in-house programmers and users, MuniMagic was written in the latest version of Microsoft Visual Basic. Initially, the system used a Microsoft SQL 2000 database application spanning several tables. The servers were linked by gigabit network adaptors connected to a gigabit Ethernet switch and used RAID 5 disk arrays with nearly 700 Gigabytes of capacity.
Since its initial release, we have continued to improve the MuniMagic application with one major version release, three minor version releases, sixty-seven interim builds and hundreds of screen improvements and programming modifications. However, with further technological advancements available in the server software and hardware industry, it was soon time for yet another major upgrade to the system.
In February 2006, MuniFinancial implemented a new Storage Area Network (SAN). The new SAN technology provided MuniFinancial with increased network storage capacity, improved data access performance utilizing fiber channel networking, refined data backup infrastructure and enhanced storage scalability - currently allowing MuniFinancial to store and access 4.3 terabytes of data with expansion capabilities to over 9 terabytes.
In November 2006, the MuniMagic application was updated utilizing the latest version of Microsoft's .Net technology in Visual C# and Visual Basic, with hundreds of forms, classes and user controls. It also contains thousands of stored database procedures and functions that access data from our application and data servers. The application and data servers run the latest version of Microsoft Enterprise Server and Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise 2005. MuniMagic provides customizable reporting options by utilizing the latest version of Crystal Reports and allows full ad hoc reporting with extensive customizable field exporting utilizing Microsoft database tool components. Hundreds of main database tables are used to maintain our extensive parcel database - which has entries in the millions.
In addition to the updates that were made to the MuniMagic programming, we also upgraded the hardware that houses the application. Also in November 2006, the MuniMagic application was moved to a new dual-core processor server. This hardware improvement offers significant enhancements in processing power and speed. It also provides significantly more system memory for handling more complex special district databases and calculations.
The technology used with MuniMagic also allows us to provide our clients with access to parcel data and reports through our website. MuniMagic may be licensed in one of three ways:
- To access limited parcel specific data via the Internet
- To access all MuniMagic data, screens and reports for reference purposes after contracting with us for on-going administration services
- To administer your special districts in-house using all the features and functionality of MuniMagic
If you are interested in additional information regarding our MuniMagic application, or are interested in gaining access to your parcel data via our website, please contact your MuniFinancial contact. In addition, you may contact Mark Risco, Division Manager of District Administration Services. |
